What are "Short-Chain Chlorinated Paraffins, C10-C13 (SCCPs)" and Why They Need to be Tested?

Chlorinated paraffins (CPs) are complex mixtures of certain organic polychlorinated n-alkanes, and "SCCPs" stands for the "Short-Chain Chlorinated Paraffins, C10-C13".  SCCPs may be used as flame retardants, softeners and plasticizer in various PVC, plastics, paints and rubbers, etc.  Despite their usefulness, SCCPs can be hazardous to human health and environment, e.g.

- can cause cancers

- can cause skin dryness or cracking

- are persistent organic pollutants

- have toxicity to aquatic organisms and adverse effects to environment
