Identify Potential Choking Hazards
The Small Parts Cylinder and Templates A, B and E can help you identify unsafe toys with potential risk of choking. The Cylinder and Templates mimic the mouth cavity of a young child. If a toy or removable component of the toy can fit entirely inside the cylinder or pass through the templates, it could present a choking risk to children.
Small Parts Cylinder
Place the toy or any removable component of a toy intended for children under 3 years of age, without compressing it and in any orientation into the small parts cylinder. If the toy or removable component fits entirely within the cylinder, it fails to comply with standards for children under 3 years of age.
Template A (Rattle Test Fixture)
Place the toy or toy component intended for children under 18 months into the opening of the template. If the toy can pass through the base of template A, it fails to comply with standards for children under 18 months of age*.
Template B (Supplemental Test Fixture)
Template E (Small Ball Test Fixture)
*Intended for children under 10 months for EN71-1
