On 18 April 2024, an H.R. 8074 Bill titled “To phase out production of nonessential uses of perfluoroalkyl or polyfluoroalkyl substances, to prohibit releases of all perfluoroalkyl or polyfluoroalkyl substances, and for other purposes” was introduced to the U.S. House of Representatives.
This Act may be cited as the “Forever Chemical Regulation and Accountability Act of 2024”.
The general rule is, not later than 10 years after the date of enactment of this Act, manufacturers and users shall complete the full phaseout of non-essential uses of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
Effective Date
Notwithstanding the 10 years phaseout general rule, the Bill also specifies certain products for accelerated phaseout. The following table describes the year(s), as counted after the date of enactment of this Act, as the phaseout period for that group of products.
Beginning on the date after those phaseout years, no person may sell, offer for sale, or distribute for sale, in interstate commerce, those products that contain intentionally used perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
