China Plans to Replace Its RoHS Standard

2024-12-12

Substantial Changes

On 19 November 2024, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT 工业和信息化部) published a notice to collect public opinions (公开征求意见) for the drafts of 8 mandatory standards, including the standard to replace GB/T 26572-2011 China RoHS “Requirements of Concentration Limits for Certain Restricted Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products (强制性国家标准《电器电子产品有害物质限制使用要求》) ”.

The proposed draft 20231685-Q-339 will consolidate GB/T 26572-2011 and other standards such as SJ/T 11346-2014 “Labeling requirements for restricted use of hazardous substances in electronic and electrical products (电子电气产品有害物质限制使用标识要求)”. The upcoming revised standard will replace GB/T 26572-2011 and all its amendments.

Substantial Changes

Compared with the currently effective China RoHS and all its amendment lists, changes in the draft include:

  • Addition of three term definitions (see 3.6, 3.7 and 3.8);
  • Addition of classification management requirements (see Chapter 4);
  • Addition of labeling requirements (see Chapter 6);
  • Addition of requirements related to the declaration of conformity (see Chapter 7);
  • Addition of relevant requirements for the inspection rules (see section 8);

Deadline for Comments

The deadline for public opinions is 18 January 2025.
