Draft Chinese Standard for Children’s Watches Published for Comments

On 13 May 2025, the China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (工业和信息化部) published a notice on “Soliciting Opinions on the Mandatory National Standard 'Technical Requirements for Safety of Children's Watches' (Draft for Comments)” (关于征求《儿童手表安全技术要求》强制性国家标准(征求意见稿)意见的通知).

The requirements are:

- Appearance Safety

- Flame Retardance

- Waterproof Performance

- Chemical Properties

- Network Security

- Prevention and Treatment of Internet Addiction

- Payment Control (e.g. requiring guardian's consent)

- Watch Loss Reporting

- Electromagnetic Radiation

- Electromagnetic Compatibility

- Sound Requirements

- Battery Safety

- Safe Charging

- Surface Contact Temperature

- Contact List Exchange

- Biometric Identification

- Markings and Safety Warnings

According to the definition, children's watches refer to watches for children aged 3 years and above and under 14 years old. Children's smart watches are children's watches with information processing functions such as calls and positioning that meet the specific needs of children.

 

Deadline for Comments

Comments are to be submitted to the Standard Drafting Department before 12 June 2025.

 

Effective Date

12 months after the publication.
