The unveiling was co-hosted by Mr. Yüsüpjan Memet, Standing member of the Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the People's Government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region*; Mr. Lifan ZHU, Vice Chairman of the People's Government*; and Professor Richard FUNG, Chief Executive of STC. This new service centre in northwestern China marks a new and historic milestone for STC. It also marks closer cooperation between Hong Kong and Xinjiang in testing, inspection and certification, helping the local industry further integrate international standards while opening up broader markets for Xinjiang’s high-quality products.
Located in the Eurasian part of the continent, Xinjiang was an important part of the ancient Silk Road; it served as a transportation artery that connected China to Central and Western Asia. Modern-day Xinjiang is a core region of the Belt and Road Initiative.
Establishing an international, independent testing and certification organisation in Xinjiang will contribute to local and national economic development, as well as help raise local living standards.
Professor Richard FUNG, Chief Executive of STC,joined a trip for economic and cultural exchange to Xinjiang last year led by Mr. Chun-ying LEUNG, Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. Under Mr. LEUNG’s impetus, the STC (Xinjiang) project soon received full support from various parties of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, including the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, the Administration for Market Regulation, and the Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Institute.
Professor FUNG expressed his excitement, “I am thrilled and deeply grateful to all for their comprehensive support and mobilisation of manpower and resources in seeing this project to fruition. It is a delight to see STC's service network reaching so far. I would also like to give a big thank you to Mr. LEUNG, and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Government for their staunch support."
STC (Xinjiang) will be positioned as an international and independent third-party testing, inspection and certification organisation offering world-class services to the Xinjiang region and China. The company aims to assist in furthering the quality, international competitiveness, and recognition of myriad high-quality specialities of Xinjiang. STC will furthermore leverage its technological advantages, management expertise, and international network, and collaborate with the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission and the Administration for Market Regulation of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to assist in building high-quality Xinjiang brands.

【26 March 2024, Hong Kong】Ms. Vivian LAM, Sales and Marketing Manager of Chemical, Food and Pharmaceutical Products Department of Hong Kong Standards and Testing Centre (STC), attended the launch of the Department of Health’s new dedicated website, "Digital Herbarium for Chinese Medicines".
The website was created by the Government Chinese Medicines Testing Institute of the Department of Health to store digitalized Chinese medicines specimens. As the first online herbarium of its kind that provides comprehensive information on Chinese medicines, the website promotes an in-depth integration of the traditional Chinese medicine business with modern information technology. It is accessible to the public, industries, international research institutions, and testing organisations for identifying and researching Chinese Materia Medica (CMM).
STC's contribution to the Chinese medicine industry coincides with the concept of the "Digital Herbarium for Chinese Medicines" to promote Chinese medicines. STC’s tested product categories encompass a wide range of CMM and proprietary Chinese medicines. As a third party and non-profit laboratory in Hong Kong that offers advanced and precise Chinese medicine testing, STC can issue CNAS and HOKLAS accredited reports after testing for heavy metals, micro-organisms and pesticides residues in Chinese medicines. At the same time, STC can also provide quality testing, general stability testing and accelerated stability testing for proprietary Chinese medicines. Over the years, STC has played and continues to play a key role in monitoring the quality of Chinese medicines and opening up new markets around the world for the industry. Looking ahead, STC will continue to work with the authorities and the industry to maintain and improve the quality of Chinese medicines, whilst striving to promote the standardisation, modernisation, and internationalisation of Chinese medicines. STC will also keep contributing to the development of the Chinese medicine industry and to the health of all peoples.
