26 Mar 2024

26 March 2024, Hong KongMs. Vivian LAM, Sales and Marketing Manager of Chemical, Food and Pharmaceutical Products Department of Hong Kong Standards and Testing Centre (STC), attended the launch of the Department of Health’s new dedicated website, "Digital Herbarium for Chinese Medicines".

The website was created by the Government Chinese Medicines Testing Institute of the Department of Health to store digitalized Chinese medicines specimens. As the first online herbarium of its kind that provides comprehensive information on Chinese medicines, the website promotes an in-depth integration of the traditional Chinese medicine business with modern information technology. It is accessible to the public, industries, international research institutions, and testing organisations for identifying and researching Chinese Materia Medica (CMM).

STC's contribution to the Chinese medicine industry coincides with the concept of the "Digital Herbarium for Chinese Medicines" to promote Chinese medicines. STC’s tested product categories encompass a wide range of CMM and proprietary Chinese medicines. As a third party and non-profit laboratory in Hong Kong that offers advanced and precise Chinese medicine testing, STC can issue CNAS and HOKLAS accredited reports after testing for heavy metals, micro-organisms and pesticides residues in Chinese medicines. At the same time, STC can also provide quality testing, general stability testing and accelerated stability testing for proprietary Chinese medicines. Over the years, STC has played and continues to play a key role in monitoring the quality of Chinese medicines and opening up new markets around the world for the industry. Looking ahead, STC will continue to work with the authorities and the industry to maintain and improve the quality of Chinese medicines, whilst striving to promote the standardisation, modernisation, and internationalisation of Chinese medicines. STC will also keep contributing to the development of the Chinese medicine industry and to the health of all peoples.
